Animals, Human Skeleton |
Young explorers will look at live animals and our human skeleton. |
Animals, Starlab, Rocks |
Preschoolers will meet and learn about live animals, discover rocks and minerals, and explore space in our walk-in StarLab planetarium. |
Animals without Bones |
During this week we will look into the world of living animals with no skeleton. How do they live? What do they eat? Will they hurt me? Maybe get to hold a Tarantula (if you want). |
A Power Trip: The Human and Environmental Costs of Energy Production |
We will learn some of the basics of energy production by: reading and discussing contemporary articles, literature and oral histories related to local and global energy production, the consequences of each and how each has developed over time, visiting local/state energy production sites and exchanging with communities impacted by coal extraction (This camp will include 2 overnights in Eastern Kentucky). |
Astronomy |
Blast off into the cosmos with the Science Center and learn all about space. Hold a real meteor. Take a "Walk through the stars" in our StarLab planetarium. Indulge your junior astronomer with a week of "out of this world" fun. |
Big Predators |
Boas, Bears, Wolverines, Sharks and more will be featured during this weeks camp. We will learn how we humans can help save big predators |
Earth Science |
Calling junior geologists! Join us for an earthshaking experience, as we explore "everything Earth". What exactly IS an earthquake. Where do mountains come from? Could a volcano erupt in your backyard. You've got questions. We've got answers. |
Exploring the Animal World |
This week we are going to look into the exciting world of vertebrate animals and explore different habitats, conservation methods and ways in which some of the worlds most endangered wildlife survives. |
Food, Farmers, and You: A Hands-On Exploration of the Food YOU Eat and the Farmers Who Grow It |
We will learn some of the basics of food production by: reading and discussing contemporary articles, literature and oral histories related to local and global food production, the consequences of each and how each has developed over time and learning from and working with local food growers |
Fossils & Dinosaurs |
This weeks paleontologists will learn about an amazing array of ice age fossils, dinosaurs and fossils without bones |
Girls Only |
We will explore a wide world of science ideas from stars to snakes to electricity to earthquakes. |
Physics and Chemistry |
Join Mr. Green and the Science Team as we explore the fun side of physics and chemistry. Create your own slime, make volcanoes erupt, and see what happens when you mix Mentors and diet coke. |
Oceanography |
During this camp we will learn not only about ocean animals but also what actions humans can take to protect oceans and we will learn about different ocean features. |
Reptiles |
Elementary kids get "up close and personal" with our collection of live reptiles. Touch a turtle, hold a snake, and learn what makes these "creeping critters' tick and why it is important to protect them. |
Robotics |
How far can you throw a ball with a pneumatic catapult? How fast can your remote controlled robot go? Can you design and build a robot to complete specific tasks? Come join us at the Science Center to design and build functional robots. While no pre-requisites are required there will be heavy emphasis on Math and Science during this course. Students will have the opportunity to have hands on experience of normally theoretical math, science, engineering and technology. Students will be taught about safety, the history of robotics as well as the mathematical and physical methods needed to make successful and reliable robots. |
